Shift Type: 4 days per week, 10 hours per week - Variable day off (No weekends)
Responsible for conducting assessments on all patients and making arrangements for medical evaluation and or testing as applicable prior to patients scheduled procedure/surgery. This position is responsible for ensuring that the patient receives education on how to prepare for and what to expect on the day of their procedure/surgery. Responsible for ensuring the medical record is complete and prepared with all of the appropriate documentation, including any lab work.
Responsibilities- Accountable that patient care meets standards of safety, effectiveness, patient rights and guest relations
- Treats patients respectfully, in a calm and courteous manner at all times.
- Conducts Perioperative phone screening of pre-operative surgical patients. Provides arrival times, and pre-operative instructions to patients.
- Contact by way of telephone, all patients prior to surgery to assess medical and medication history, review for appropriate labs, x-ray, EKG orders to determine when these are to be completed and provide pre-admission teaching.
- Conducts a thorough assessment, documents findings, and communicates pertinent information to the appropriate medical and clinical personnel.
- Provides the patient and or legal guardian comprehensive instructions on how to prepare for the procedure/surgery, including but not limited to any required pre-op testing, NPO guidelines, arrival times, what to bring day of procedure/surgery, and the need for a family member to be present and have ride available the day of procedure/surgery.
- Adheres to the pre-admission assessment and screening policy and identifies patients that require further review and approval by the anesthesiologist/surgeon prior to the day of surgery.
- Ensures the medical record is complete with all appropriate test results and required documents, e.g. nursing assessment, H&P, orders, etc. prior to the patient’s arrival.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
Associate degree from a two year college or university preferred.
- Current RN license preferred.
- Graduate from an approved school of professional nursing preferred.
- Two (2) years related experience and or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior working experience with electronic medical records (EMR) software preferred.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology.
- Computer efficiency, and willingness to learn multiple new programs.
- Experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office preferred.
- The job requires computer skills. Must be adept at using various applications including database, spreadsheet, communication by e-mail and use of specialty software.
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) and present information to patients, families, co-workers, etc.
- Must be able to work variable hours and be flexible to meet the needs of the center’s daily surgery schedule.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to function effectively in stressful situations.
- Ability to follow direction and willingness to be trained and learn.
- Ability to work with all disciplines in the facility in a professional manner.
- Must display good judgement, initiative, and resourcefulness.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
