Westmont, IL – Senior Maintenance Worker – Underground

Responsibilities

This position will report to the Public Works facility daily and, under the general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor – Underground Division, operate varied equipment engaged in programs such as water main repairs, fire hydrant and valve repair, storm sewer repairs and maintenance, and locating underground utilities for J.U.L.I.E. and related programs. The employee will act as lead worker or crew chief directing workers on specific projects.

• Minimum of three to five years of experience working for a municipality or similar agency and/or construction experience with a private contractor, preferably with water distribution or storm sewer systems, or experience in the operation of related equipment.
• Valid Illinois CDL Class “B” vehicle operator’s license with air brake and tanker endorsement.
• IEPA Class D or C Water Operator license, or Operator in Training designation with ability to obtain the license within three months.
• Ability to act as a lead worker directing work activities for employees on specific assignments.
• Willingness to respond to emergency calls on a 24‑hour, 7‑day basis and within a 30‑45 minute time period.
• Ability to accept rotating, after‑hours standby assignments.
• Skill in operating equipment such as backhoes and vactors.
• Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with municipal employees and the general public.
