Job DescriptionPosition Overview
The Weston Public Schools is seeking to hire a Drama Teacher for our Middle School. This is a full-time role (0.80 Drama and 0.20 Related Arts) reporting to the Building Principal and the English/Drama Department Head (Grades 6-12). In addition to teaching responsibilities, this role will lead the three Middle School plays (stipends available for each play). The Weston Public Schools enrolls approximately 2,000 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The district includes a high school, a middle school, an upper elementary school, and two lower elementary schools. Since 1967, Weston has participated in METCO, a voluntary desegregation program that places Boston residents in suburban schools. The METCO program enrolls approximately 150 students (K‑12).

- Identify and support accommodations most effective for students, based on individual needs.
- Provide whole‑class, small‑group, and specialized instruction.
- Model a precise and expressive use of language to effectively communicate with students, including expectations, directions, and content explanations.
- Use questions, prompts, and discussion techniques to cognitively challenge students, advance high‑level thinking and discourse, and promote metacognition.
- Intellectually engage all students in well‑designed learning tasks and activities that require complex thinking, including appropriate scaffolding.
- Utilize formative and summative assessments to drive instructional planning, monitor student learning, provide feedback, and facilitate students’ self‑monitoring of learning.
- Collaborate ongoingly with teachers and related service providers.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Licensed as a Theatre Teacher in Massachusetts (required).
- Sheltered English Immersion Endorsement (SEI).
- Experience as a teacher, ideally in a diverse public school setting.
- Competency with technology, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Strong work ethic and eagerness to improve.
- Commitment to doing whatever it takes to support all students’ learning and development.
This is a school‑year role (184 days over a full school year), represented by the Weston Education Association. The position is entitled to the same salary schedule as teachers and other professional staff.
