Head Coach - Junior Varsity Volleyball Team

The Rivers School — a 6-12 co-ed independent day school in Weston, MA, just outside Boston — seeks professionals who are looking to join a dynamic, innovative, and welcoming school community.

This permanent part-time junior varsity coaching position starts the second week of September 2026 and ends the third weekend in November 2026 at the conclusion of the season. We are always looking for great professionals who can contribute to the evolving needs of the institution. Therefore, the potential to contribute to other aspects of the academic, co-curricular, and administrative functions of the school will be part of the evaluation of candidates.

The Rivers athletics program is an extension of our institutional mission and values as expressed in Excellence with Humanity. Rivers believes that participation in interscholastic athletics significantly enhances the high school educational experience. The athletics program at Rivers complements the school's values of community and the rigorous academic program, strengthens the mind/body connection, promotes healthy habits, creates valuable opportunities for social interaction, and provides opportunities for new arenas in which students can excel and grow.

Candidates must possess a commitment to professional development and personal growth as a coach as well as the ability and desire to collaborate effectively with colleagues in the athletic department and across campus to support the school's mission and the team's goals. A team-first attitude, a sincere care for student wellbeing, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to advancing the school's DEI mission are also essential qualities for a successful Rivers professional.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • an extensive understanding of the strategic and tactical aspects of Volleyball.
  • experience in Volleyball as a competitor or coach.
  • a passion for helping teams and players reach their full potential on and off the court.
  • the capacity to model good behavior and interact respectfully with student-athletes, staff, officials, parents and caregivers.
  • the ability to positively motivate, inspire, and be a role model to students, on and off the court.
  • a valid driver's license and the ability to drive a team van to opposing games.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage a Monday-to-Saturday practice/game schedule, including travel to away opponents.
  • Organize and conduct carefully planned practices that foster development, preparation, and fellowship.
  • Build a strong team culture that values leadership, responsibility, and respect and that aligns with The Rivers School mission.

Salary Range: $3,000-$4,000
