LOCATION:
Weston Middle School & Weston High School Job Goal:
To educate students in the Spanish language and culture
Performance Responsibilities:- Plan and develop a curriculum that aligns with state and district standards for Spanish language education.
- Create engaging lesson plans that cater to the needs and abilities of middle and high school students.
- Incorporate a variety of teaching methods and resources to make learning interesting and effective.
- Instruction:
- Teach students the fundamentals of the Spanish language, including vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and cultural aspects.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
- Use technology and multimedia resources to enhance language instruction.
- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Assess student progress through regular assignments, quizzes, tests, and other forms of evaluation.
- Provide constructive feedback to students and communicate progress to parents through report cards and parent‑teacher conferences.
- Classroom Management:
- Establish and maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment.
- Enforce school and classroom rules consistently.
- Address behavioral issues promptly and effectively.
- Introduce students to Spanish culture, traditions, and customs.
- Incorporate cultural elements into lessons to broaden students' understanding and appreciation of the Spanish‑speaking world.
- Professional Development:
- Stay current with developments in language education, teaching methodologies, and technology.
- Attend professional development workshops and conferences to enhance teaching skills.
- Communication:
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Collaborate with other language teachers and educators to enhance the overall language program.
- Extracurricular
Activities:- Participate in or facilitate extracurricular activities related to the Spanish language and culture, such as language clubs, cultural events, or field trips.
- Parental Involvement:
- Foster positive relationships with parents through regular communication and involvement in parent‑teacher conferences.
- Be flexible and adaptable in responding to the diverse learning needs of students.
- Adjust teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
Required:
- Holds or is eligible for the Connecticut State Certification as a Spanish teacher (#023), additional endorsement in French (#018) preferred
- Possesses a degree in Spanish or Spanish Language Education from an accredited college or university
- Demonstrates cultural competence and the ability to incorporate cultural elements into language instruction
- Possesses extensive knowledge of needs, behavior and growth patterns of children ages 11-18
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate

Terms of Employment:
Salary and work year to be established by the Contract between the Weston Board of Education and the Weston Teachers' Association
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Weston Educator and Leader Growth and Evaluation Plan and Board of Education policy
