Adjunct Lecturer, Global Public Health

Summary The Undergraduate Public Health Program invites applications for an Adjunct Faculty member to teach an undergraduate Global Public Health course in an in-person classroom setting. The successful candidate will bring current knowledge and practical experience in global health and will engage students in understanding major public health challenges, health disparities, and strategies for improving health outcomes across diverse populations and settings.

Course: PBH 206 – Introduction to Global Health class to undergraduates who are majors or minors in public health or any other student with an interest in the topic. Class will be in-person and/or hybrid.

The Global Public Health course introduces undergraduate students to the principles, practices, and challenges of public health from an international and cross-cultural perspective with a focus on low-income, low-resourced countries. Topics may include:

Global patterns of health, disease, and mortality

Social, economic, environmental, and political determinants of health

Health disparities

Communicable and non-communicable diseases

Maternal, child, and reproductive health

Global nutrition and food security

Environmental and occupational health

Public health systems and health policy

Humanitarian emergencies and disaster response

Global health organizations and partnerships

Sustainable development and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Ethics, cultural competence, and community engagement in global health

Case studies addressing contemporary global health challenge

Essential Functions Teach an undergraduate Global Public Health course in person according to the approved course curriculum.

Prepare and deliver engaging lectures, discussions, activities, and case-based learning experiences.

Create an inclusive classroom environment that encourages critical thinking and respectful discussion.

Integrate current global health research, data, policies, and real-world examples into course instruction.

Develop and/or administer assignments, examinations, presentations, and other assessments.

Provide timely, constructive feedback to students.

Maintain accurate attendance and grading  available to provide appropriate opportunities for student consultation.

Communicate regularly with students regarding course expectations, assignments, and academic progress.

Use the university's learning management system and other instructional technologies as required.

Participate in department meetings, orientations, training, and other activities expected of adjunct faculty.

Meet periodically with program director to ensure effective communication and clarity of expectations

Comply with university policies and academic standards.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills Master's degree or higher in Public Health, Global Health, Epidemiology, Health Policy, International Development, or a closely related field.

Professional or academic experience in global public health or a related discipline.

Demonstrated ability to teach, present, or facilitate learning at the undergraduate level.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive, and student-centered teaching.

Ability to incorporate current research, data, and real-world applications into teaching

Organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines (grading, course management, reporting)

Preferred Qualifications Doctoral degree (DrPH, ScD, PhD, MD, or equivalent) in public health or a related field.

College or university teaching experience.

Experience working in international or cross-cultural public health settings.

Professional experience with global health programs, NGOs, governmental or intergovernmental organizations, or community-based initiatives.
