Description

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Pre-Licensure Nursing, the Director will oversee all aspects of clinical placement in Pre-Licensure. The Director is responsible for securing, coordinating, and maintaining all clinical placements. Manages the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and ongoing professional development of clinical faculty to ensure high-quality clinical instruction and full compliance with programmatic, regulatory, and accreditation standards. As a key member of the School of Nursing leadership team, the Director serves on assigned institutional and program committees and collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders.

The Director also represents the Clinical Placement Office in public-facing School of Nursing activities, providing clinical education information to diverse audiences and actively supporting the School's mission and strategic priorities. Ensures clinical courses and objectives are fully developed by faculty and realized each semester through appropriate placements, learning opportunities, and robust evaluation. The Director will employ strategies to increase the number of instructors, preceptors, and clinical site partnerships throughout the academic year and collaborate with departments internally and externally to build and strengthen those relationships.

Essential Functions

  • Recruits, hires, and evaluates clinical faculty.
  • Works closely with Clinical Faculty Liaisons to engage clinical faculty through regular, proactive communication, ensuring they remain engaged, informed, and connected throughout the clinical placement process.
  • Oversee the clinical placement team's daily work and ongoing development.
  • Ensures the quality and effectiveness of clinical placements through ongoing faculty and site assessment, and systematic review of student feedback to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develops and sustains strong, collaborative relationships clinical practice partners, and didactic course faculty to support effective and timely clinical education delivery.
  • Recruit and manage relationships with clinical sites/settings/organizations through varied modalities including in person visits when appropriate.
  • Maintain regular contact with clinical affiliates to ensure clinical objectives are met.
  • Engage with nursing leadership, faculty, clinical coordinators, and students to resolve student concerns regarding their experience with clinical preparations and placements.
  • Communicate student expectations of timely compliance with pre-clinical requirements, securing timely placements through the approval process and receiving the guidance needed during their time as students in clinical courses.
  • Review and revise the student clinical manual, student evaluations, and faculty and clinical site evaluations as needed.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures, and waivers for unique clinical situations, and orients students and faculty to policy updates each semester
  • Ensure full compliance with Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN) policies and procedures related to clinical faculty appointments, waivers, and clinical instruction.
  • Prepare and maintain required documentation and data tables for the annual BORN report related to adjunct clinical faculty and preceptors.
  • Responsible for the coordination for the development and delivery of virtual clinical experiences in collaboration with clinical faculty, clinical tools/platforms, and educational leadership.
  • Verify that clinical affiliation agreements are active and up to date in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Oversee and work closely with other members of the placement team to develop and manage critical workflows such as placements, assessments, and data integrity.
  • Work toward continuous improvement of clinical coordination processes and procedures.
  • Participate in CCP meetings, attend weekly Director's meetings, and PLD/SON meetings.
