American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg 4th Floor night shift position at an acute care hospital in Wisconsin, requiring at least one year of Med/Surg experience and a WI or compact RN license.
Details- 13-week contract on a 30-bed Med/Surg unit in an acute care hospital setting
- Night shift: 1900–0730 (12-hour shifts)
- Every other weekend required, with holiday rotation (2 out of 3 winter holidays, every other for remaining holidays)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 4–6 patients on days and 5–6 at night, occasionally up to 7
- CNAs on unit with a 1:10 ratio
- Patient population includes post-op orthopedic and general surgery (knee, hip, shoulder, thyroidectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy) as well as medical patients with diagnoses such as HTN, HF, pneumonia, COPD, AMS, TIA, DM, sepsis, UTI, and AKI
- Titratable drips are rare; most common are Heparin and PCAs
- Telemetry monitoring is available via central monitor; RNs are not required to read or interpret their own tele strips — tele techs are available on-site
- RT equipment includes CPAP (home settings) and BiPAP (rare use)
- Charting system is Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
- Floating required to like units; may float as a CNA to IMC, ICU, or ED
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
- Current BLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg experience required
- 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years
- Orientation consists of 3 days: day 1 includes computer-based training (CBTs) with opportunity to shadow and get familiar with equipment if completed early
- Charge RN takes a patient assignment — sometimes a full assignment, sometimes modified
- Candidates must disclose any prior employment with this health system; former permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date
- First-time travelers are welcome, though more experience is preferred
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect the travel pay rate
