HVAC SERVICE TECHNICIAN & INSTALLER Job Summary
Responsible for both servicing and installing residential and light commercial heating, cooling, and ventilation systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications, applicable codes, and Connecticut licensing requirements. This role requires strong technical versatility, sound judgment, and a safety-first approach. The technician works independently on service calls and collaboratively as part of an installation team, coordinating closely with dispatch, field supervisors, installation teammates, and sales teams.
The technician takes full ownership of assigned work, delivers high-quality results across service and installation scopes, and represents The Company as a brand ambassador in customers’ homes and businesses.
- Perform residential and light commercial HVAC service and installation work, including diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, installing, and commissioning heating, cooling, and ventilation systems and components.
- Execute preventive maintenance, system testing, start-up, and commissioning procedures to verify proper operation, safety, airflow, refrigerant levels, and control functionality.
- Perform service-related repairs and installation-related connections in compliance with manufacturer specifications, applicable codes, and Connecticut licensing requirements.
- Handle refrigerants in accordance with EPA Section 608 requirements and company safety standards.
- Work independently on service calls and collaboratively as part of an installation team, coordinating with dispatch, field supervisors, installation teammates, and sales teams to support efficient and accurate execution of work.
- Take full ownership of assigned service calls and installation tasks from arrival through completion, ensuring safety, professionalism, quality workmanship, and complete documentation.
- Communicate system conditions, findings, and recommended repairs or installation details to customers; submit quotes, obtain approval, and collect payment per company process.
- Complete accurate work orders, job notes, start-up forms, time entries, and warranty documentation using company systems.
- Maintain service vehicles, tools, materials, and PPE in a clean, organized, safe, and job-ready condition.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA guidelines, and best practices, including electrical safety, ladder safety, confined-space awareness, rigging and lifting techniques, and proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Support workforce development by assisting with apprentice training, ride-alongs, and job shadows, modeling safe work habits, technical standards, and professionalism.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as required.
- Strong technical knowledge of residential and light commercial HVAC systems, equipment, controls, and installation methods.
- Demonstrated ability to perform both HVAC service diagnostics/repairs and system installations/commissioning with a safety-first mindset.
- Strong understanding of HVAC safety practices, including electrical safety, refrigerant handling, combustion safety, and equipment operation.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, sequence-of-operation charts, installation drawings, and manufacturer documentation.
- Ability to transition effectively between independent service work and team-based installation projects.
- High level of ownership and accountability for service outcomes, installation quality, jobsite safety, and documentation accuracy.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with dispatch, supervisors, installation teammates, and sales teams.
- Professional judgment and decision-making skills, particularly in safety-sensitive or customer-facing situations.
- Proficient with mobile devices, service software, and digital documentation tools.
- Serves as a positive safety role model and mentor for apprentices and job shadows.

- Current B, D or S state license
