Outside Scrap Metal Buyer

Mid-City Scrap, LLC, a long-established metal recycling leader in Middletown, CT, seeks an Outside Scrap Metal Buyer to source and purchase ferrous and nonferrous metals from industrial, commercial, and small business suppliers. This field-based role includes visiting customer sites, inspecting materials, negotiating pricing, and coordinating deliveries with our yard and logistics teams. You'll track market trends, ensure accurate documentation, and uphold strict safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

• Source and purchase ferrous and nonferrous scrap from industrial, commercial, and small business accounts across the region
• Travel to customer sites to inspect materials, assess quality, and determine volumes and pricing based on market conditions and company guidelines
• Develop and maintain long-term relationships with suppliers through regular visits, clear communication, and reliable follow-through
• Negotiate purchase terms, prepare purchase orders, and ensure accurate documentation for inbound loads
• Coordinate with yard operations, logistics, and scale staff to schedule deliveries and confirm specifications
• Monitor scrap metal market trends and pricing indexes to support profitable buying decisions
• Ensure all buying activities follow safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
• Resolve quantity or quality discrepancies with suppliers in a professional, solutions-focused manner
• Represent Mid-City Scrap in the field with a strong focus on customer service and community reputation
• Provide feedback to management on competitive activity, new business opportunities, and process improvements
