This position is responsible for site‑specific energy engineering analyses for technical Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Implementation projects. The engineer will provide technical quality assurance reviews of energy engineering studies, investigate new technologies for implementation programs, and serve as a liaison on commercial and industrial energy‑efficiency issues. In addition, the engineer will provide detailed engineering support for procurement and construction projects, offer project management, and deliver training and support services to the energy‑efficiency team and marketing activities.
EssentialFunctions
- Review third‑party calculations or conduct new detailed analysis of high‑efficiency HVAC equipment, motors, controls, lighting systems, and other equipment to determine electric and natural‑gas energy, demand, and cost savings compared to baseline equipment and building codes.
- Provide guidance on efficiency measures that will yield energy savings.
- Support and/or conduct inspections of equipment and operations to ensure proper installation.
- Collaborate with third parties and customers to implement energy‑efficiency programs.
- Provide training and support services for the energy‑efficiency team and program marketing activities.
- Participate in development of program and implementation plans for electric and natural‑gas energy‑efficiency programs.
- Review technical parameters and confirm that projects conform to engineering standards, energy codes, and incentive‑program rules.
- Support participation in national energy‑efficiency conferences and stakeholder events (e.g., ACEEE, ASHRAE, ACI, CEE, and state/regional R&D groups).
- Conduct evaluation of new technologies and research and development activities.
- BS degree in Chemical, Electrical, Energy, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering (required). Advanced degree in engineering, business, or policy (preferred).
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience with performance of duties and responsibilities described; five (5) or more years preferred.
- Proficient in lighting, HVAC & fluid handling, refrigeration, compressed air systems, control methodologies, engineering economic analyses, and manufacturing/industrial processes.
- Strong knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer as they relate to energy efficiency in commercial and industrial buildings.
- Familiarity with accepted energy engineering and HVAC industry standards, building codes, and energy‑relevant certifications.
- Proficiency in spreadsheets, word processing, relational databases, AutoCAD, and energy‑simulation tools such as eQuest, Air Master+, and Motor Master.
- Ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, project personnel, and all levels of management to develop policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated initiative and accountability for results.
- Valid motor‑vehicle operator license (required).
- Engineering in Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or LEED Professional (preferred).
Must be available for emergency restoration assignments as required. Must be available to travel between MA, CT, and NH as necessary.
