Mott Mac Donald is a multi-disciplined engineering consultancy, with a significant presence in energy, water and wastewater and infrastructure projects throughout the United States and Canada. Because of our continuing growth and success, we are now looking to appoint a Principal Geotechnical Engineer.
This is a dynamic role requiring collaboration with other senior project engineers on a wide variety of infrastructure projects including transportation, offshore wind and solar, stormwater and wastewater treatment plants, underground, roadway, and dams. The person will use technical knowledge to solve problems, evaluate risks, and collaborate with other technical experts. They will also pursue new opportunities and develop and mentor younger staff.
Asa Principal Geotechnical Engineer, your duties will include:
- Developing and leading project teams to deliver projects on time and within budget
- Leading and managing staff engineers and supporting their career and technical development
- Working within the broader Mott Mac Donald organization to promote technical excellence
- Providing technical and commercial input into project proposals
- Developing relationships with other discipline leads and project managers to foster collaboration on multidisciplinary projects
- Writing and reviewing reports, specifications and contract drawings for submission to clients (internal and external)
- Liaising with various clients, attending progress meetings and producing reports on progress
- Assessment of subsurface conditions and development of design criteria
- Developing engineering concepts, and articulation of the concepts to the team
- Identification, evaluation and communication of risks and potential risk mitigation options to clients and management
- 15+ years of related experience
- PE License in one or more states including state of residency. NY/NJ preferred.
- Established track record in geotechnical design based on project experience
- Experience working with government and local agencies, long linear projects (tunnels, pipelines, bridge/highways etc.) and energy projects (wind, solar, transmission etc.)
- Knowledge and experience in geotechnical design including shallow and deep foundations, settlement evaluation and mitigation, slope stability, and ground modification including experience with commercially available software (Lpile, Slope/W, RSPile, Settle3, Open Ground etc.)
- Experience developing geotechnical business and client relationships
- Experience in geotechnical risk determination and management
- This position is for any of our offices in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills. The expected salary for this position is $180,000 - $200,000.
