We are currently seeking a Principal Highway Engineer to join our Boston, Buffalo, NYC or Tarrytown office. This leadership role offers the opportunity to guide a talented team of professionals across a diverse portfolio of transportation and infrastructure projects. You'll play a key role in shaping project outcomes, mentoring staff, and driving technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as a discipline lead, overseeing key tasks and ensuring quality deliverables across multiple projects
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources to meet client expectations and internal goals
- Monitor labor budgets and task progress, ensuring efficient and timely execution
- Lead and support marketing and business development efforts, including proposal development and client presentations
- Foster strong client relationships through professional, responsive communication and engagement
- Oversee the design and development of highway projects using Open Roads and Civil 3D
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to produce detailed design documents for preliminary, right-of-way, and construction phases
- Perform and review complex engineering calculations related to roadway geometry, grading, drainage, and roadside safety
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and design staff
- Manage multiple assignments simultaneously, maintaining high standards of quality and performance
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in highway design, including roadway geometry, grading, drainage, and traffic engineering
- Experience in maintenance and protection of traffic (MPT) planning and design
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Massachusetts and/or Connecticut (or ability to obtain via reciprocity)
- Proven track record in project and team management, with strong leadership and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Familiarity with Massachusetts and/or Connecticut Department of Transportation standards and procedures
- Proficiency in Micro Station and Open Roads; experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D is also preferred

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
The expected salary for this position is $149,000 - $183,000.
