Role and Scope of PositionThe Lead Engineer Integrated Energy Planning performs a key role in the Company’s effort to develop an integrated energy planning strategy. The Lead Engineer Integrated Energy Planning will be responsible for leading a team of electric and gas planning engineers to conduct studies for targeted electrification, non-pipeline alternatives, and gas‑electric coordination efforts with other EDCs and capital projects. As an expert in electric power systems, power systems modeling, and power systems modeling tools, the Lead Engineer will act as the Company’s SME on integrated energy planning, represent the Company to various internal and external stakeholder groups, engage with regulators and policy makers, and present to Senior Management on projects and process.
With integrated gas and electric planning developing as a new function, the Lead Engineer will also be responsible for developing new processes, documentation, and reports, as well as gaining a detailed knowledge of gas planning.
Together with the Company’s Leads for Forecasting and Modeling, the Integrated Planning Lead will work on developing software capabilities to address the integrated planning challenges, as well a data analytics.
Essential Functions- Lead a team of gas and electric system planning engineers across all Operating Companies.
- Takes ownership of the targeted electrification pilots as well as the Non‑Pipeline Alternative (NPA) Process and securing budget authorization for Transmission, Distribution and Gas infrastructure upgrades necessary to facilitate customer electrification in lieu of current gas infrastructure and associated upgrades.
- Lead development of an integrated energy planning process and standard.
- Lead integrated energy planning and non‑pipeline alternative studies.
- Own coordination of the utility‑to‑utility data exchange for overlapping service territories.
- Coordinate closely with the community relations and regulatory affairs teams for clear communications on the Company’s electrification pilots and NPA process.
- Work closely with Energy Efficiency and Advanced Forecasting on customer adoption feasibility for targeted electrification applications.
- Collaborate with multiple cross‑functional groups in developing multi‑year targeted electrification projects.
- Support the Company’s regulatory strategy on targeted electrification.
- Engage with the Company’s rates subject matter experts to support development of specific rates for targeted electrification pilots and non‑pipeline alternatives.
- Manage backlog and priorities for the team.
- Coordinate with stakeholders on timelines and priorities of work.
- Develop agile team management processes.
- Use an agile approach to workload management for the associate engineers.
- Plan resources with high precision to deliver results on time and in expected quality.
- Deliver regular status reports.
- Ensure progress of engineers as they advance their skills in modeling and power flow, as well as coding and automation skills.
- Coordinate with planning departments to develop career progressions.
- Develop goals and conduct reviews of direct reports.
- Prepare any related documentation and/or testimony to support regulatory filings.
- Effective communication, support and implementation with distribution customers pertaining to proposed facilities.
- Provide leadership in coordinating multiple cross‑functional groups, and positive guidance for engineers.
- Present recommendations and/or results to all levels of management as appropriate.
- Represent the department and the company on various committees.
- Recommend the development and/or changes as appropriate of criteria and standards for distribution modeling.
