- Full Time, 40 hours per week.
- Location:
60 State Street in Wethersfield, CT. - Monday - Friday. 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
- The hybrid work schedule is subject to the agency's discretion and may vary based on the training schedule.
The Accounting Careers Trainee will:
- Learn and analyze the bank reconciliation process.
- Document the bank reconciliation process and make updates as technology and systems evolve.
- Perform tasks related to the bank reconciliation.
- Manage multiple tasks and deadlines, keeping projects on track and delivering results.
- Document other processes within the unit, including but not limited to combined revenue reporting and grants.
The length of the development program is determined by the experience and training requirements of the designated class and the prior experience of the incumbent. At the completion of the development program, incumbents must meet the experience and training requirements of the designated class. The program cannot be less than one (1) year and cannot exceed three (3) calendar years in accordance with C.G.S. 5-234.
Incumbents in this class will be eligible for reclassification to the designated class without competitive examination upon successful completion of the development program and satisfactory service. The designated class for this development program is Accountant.
Receives training in introductory accounting or auditing work for development of skills and knowledge in order to qualify for advancement into a professional agency accounting or auditing position;
Performs a variety of increasingly difficult duties as skills are acquired during the course of the training period;
Examines financial records of governmental or private businesses and accounting methods and procedures to ensure compliance with statutes, regulations, guidelines or accepted accounting principles;
May receive training in such areas as maintaining financial records and accounts, establishing financial statements and schedules, and preparing budget estimates;
Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices; business mathematics and statistics; business uses of information technology; effective report writing;
Ability to read and understand written materials; utilize computer software.
Candidates must be able to meet the experience and training requirements of the designated job class at the completion of the development program.
Preferred Qualifications- Possession of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Experience using Microsoft Office 365 Tools such as Outlook, Teams and Excel.
- Experience analyzing financial statements and data through coursework, work experience or internships.
- Experience prioritizing work assignments to meet deadlines.
- Experience communicating with individuals of multicultural backgrounds both verbally and in writing.
- Experience working independently and as part of a team.
