About the Opportunity
The State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is recruiting an Accounting Careers Trainee to join the Fiscal Services Division, Financial Services Unit in Wethersfield.

60 State Street, Wethersfield, CT - Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (hybrid work schedule may vary based on training)
The Accounting Careers Trainee will:
- Learn and analyze the bank reconciliation process
- Document the bank reconciliation process and update it as technology and system changes arise
- Perform tasks related to bank reconciliation
- Manage multiple tasks and deadlines, keeping projects on track and delivering results
- Document other processes within the unit, including combined revenue reporting and grants
The development program lasts 1–3 calendar years and, upon completion, incumbents may be reclassified to the designated class (Accountant) without competitive examination. Successful completion requires meeting experience and training requirements of the designated class.
Responsibilities (Examples of Duties)- Receive training in introductory accounting or auditing work to qualify for advancement
- Perform a variety of increasingly difficult duties as skills are acquired
- Examine financial records and accounting methods to ensure compliance with statutes, regulations, and accepted accounting principles
- Receive training in maintaining financial records, constructing financial statements, and preparing budget estimates
- Perform related duties as required
- Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles, business mathematics and statistics, business information technology, and effective report writing
- Ability to read and understand written materials and utilize computer software
Candidates must be able to meet the experience and training requirements of the designated job class upon completion of the development program.
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting or finance
- Experience with Microsoft Office 365 Tools (Outlook, Teams, Excel)
- Experience analyzing financial statements and data
- Experience prioritizing work assignments to meet deadlines
- Experience communicating with multicultural backgrounds both verbally and in writing
- Experience working independently and as part of a team
