Our nonprofit client is seeking a Staff Accountant to support day to day accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting. This role will assist with general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, month-end close, and compliance activities, while working closely with the finance team to support the organization’s mission and funding requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Support the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processing as needed
- Prepare and review supporting schedules for financial statements
- Track and reconcile restricted and unrestricted funds
- Assist with grant tracking, reporting, and compliance documentation
- Support annual audit preparation and respond to auditor requests
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards
- Assist with budget tracking and variance analysis
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate financial coding and documentation
- Perform other accounting and finance duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2–4 years of accounting experience; nonprofit or fund accounting experience strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of general ledger accounting and reconciliations
- Experience with month‑end close activities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with nonprofit accounting systems (MIP, Sage Intacct, Net Suite, or similar preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage deadlines in a structured, compliance‑driven environment
- Professional communication skills and ability to handle confidential information
- Experience supporting grants, cost reports, or government‑funded programs
- Prior audit support experience
- Familiarity with nonprofit financial reporting requirements
