Introduction
The State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is now accepting applications for an Assistant Accountant in the Revenue Services Unit.
Position Highlights- Hybrid work setting
- Monday – Friday
- Full Time, 40 hours per week, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

60 State Street, Wethersfield, CT
We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to support the DMV Fiscal Services Division with billing, refunds, and other accounts receivable activities. The role will handle independent bookkeeping and basic accounting for a group of accounts, maintain accounts receivable, prepare and process billings, calculate interest and penalties, ensure compliance with contract provisions, produce simple financial statements, and provide customer service by telephone.
Key Responsibilities- Perform bookkeeping and basic accounting activities for related group of accounts
- Maintain accounts receivable, prepare and process billings, make adjustments, cancellations, and compute interest and penalties
- Ensure routine payments comply with contract provisions
- Prepare simple financial statements
- Provide customer service and resolution by telephone
- Perform related duties as required
- Four (4) years of experience in complex clerical accounting or financial examining work equivalent to a Financial Clerk
- College training may substitute up to two (2) years of experience for fifteen (15) semester hours
- One (1) year as a Pre-Professional Trainee in an accounting class may substitute for experience
- Experience with financial systems, including generation and review of financial records
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook)
- Experience using Quick Books
- Experience performing arithmetical computations and analyzing financial data from accounting systems
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong teamwork or individual work experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Bookkeeping and financial record‑keeping principles
- Basic governmental accounting principles
- Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Arithmetical and auditing ability
- Understanding and application of statutes and regulations
- Use of electronic data processing systems for financial information
