Wethersfield High School is seeking a motivated and dedicated professional to serve as our long term substitute Social Studies Teacher. The position is vital to our school as the staff member has regular and influential interactions with students, staff, and parents/families.

We are seeking a substitute Social Studies Teacher who will be responsible for all common teacher responsibilities, including but not limited to creating and delivering lessons, developing an engaging learning environment, and ensuring students receive regular feedback and assessment.
Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated ability to create a collaborative learning culture for students that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and deep understanding of the content to make them positive, productive and informed citizens.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Create lesson plans aligned to deliver instructional activities that engage students in the attainment of academic skills through the use of course curricula;
* Create student-centered learning activities for students that are rigorous and encourage analytical thinking;
* Encourage student learning through peer collaboration, productive discussion, and writing;
* Guide students, individually and in groups, in preparing for different types of assessments;
* Regularly collaborate with colleagues in the development of learning activities and assessments;
* Effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues about student performance;
* Provide individualized student support and mentoring;
* Provide on-going feedback to students through the use of formative assessments;
Qualifications:
* Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree;
* Prefer candidates with appropriate CT Certification in Social Studies (026);
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community;
* Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form;
* Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints;
* Ability to handle and treat information confidentially;
* Ability to plan and organize work schedule and set priorities;
* Ability to work independently and efficiently.
