Wethersfield Elementary Schools are looking for a motivated and dedicated professional with superior communication skills to fill our critical Reading Tutor opening.

Position Summary

The Wethersfield Public Schools is seeking a Part-Time Reading Tutor to provide supplemental reading instruction to individual students or small groups to support the development of foundational literacy skills. The tutor will work under the guidance of certified teachers to reinforce classroom instruction and help students improve reading fluency, decoding, comprehension, and confidence.

Responsibilities

* Provide small-group and/or one-on-one reading support to students.

* Deliver explicit and systematic literacy instruction using school-provided materials and evidence-based strategies.

* Reinforce classroom reading instruction and targeted intervention goals.

* Support students in developing phonics, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.

* Monitor student progress and share observations with supervising teachers or specialists.

* Maintain documentation of instructional sessions and student progress, as required.

* Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education teachers, reading specialists, and support staff.

* Foster a positive, encouraging, and inclusive learning environment.

* Maintain student confidentiality and adhere to district policies and procedures.

* Implement structured literacy interventions aligned with student goals, using data-driven instructional decisions.

* Collaborate with special education and general education teachers to support literacy development across settings.

* Maintain accurate records of student performance, progress reports, and service logs in accordance with district and state requirements.

* Consult regularly with case managers, classroom teachers, and families to share instructional strategies and progress.

* Demonstrate a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.

Qualifications

Required:

* Demonstrated knowledge of structured literacy principles and evidence-based reading interventions for students with dyslexia and other reading disabilities.

* Prior tutoring or classroom support experience.

* Experience working with students with disabilities in small groups and inclusive settings.

* Strong collaboration and communication skills.

* Bachelor's Degree.

Preferred:

* Connecticut State Certification in Comprehensive Special Education (165), Elementary PK-6 (305), or Remedial Reading and Language Arts (097/102) or appropriate equivalent.

* Experience with structured literacy or evidence-based reading instruction

* Familiarity with Connecticut's Scientific Research-Based Interventions (SRBI) framework and CT Core Standards.
