Summary of Position:

We are seeking a passionate and innovative English Learners (EL) Teacher, who is a CT TESOL-certified (#111) expert dedicated to fostering academic and linguistic excellence. The ideal candidate will create a highly engaging learning environment that aligns with our Vision of the Graduate skills, Communicator, Problem-Solver, and Collaborator, equipping students for success in an ever-evolving world.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Plan and create lesson plans aligned with the district's curriculum and the state's core educational standards, and deliver instructional activities consistent with the targeted learning;

* Implementation of the district EL curriculum tailored to grade and proficiency levels, and provision of Tier 1 and Tier 2 EL instruction;

* Create, organize and utilize learning activities (discussions, projects and assessments) designed to enhance classroom teaching, support optimal learning, and develop new skills;

* Encourage student learning through peer collaboration and productive discussion;

* Selection and sharing of necessary modifications and accommodations for students;

* Guide students, individually and in groups, in preparing for different types of assessments;

* Collaborate with colleagues in the development and utilization of unit lessons and learning assessments;

* Coaching and modeling for classroom teachers on content-based Tier I instructional strategies;

* Integrate technology and interactive resources to support student engagement and learning;

* Evaluate student progress and achievement through formal and informal testing, and use the data to drive instruction and intervention;

* Collection and analysis of performance data from curriculum-based and state assessments;

* Assessment of ELs through benchmark and state proficiency testing (LAS Links) and reporting of performance results to students, teachers, parents, and administration;

* Create a classroom environment conducive to learning;

* Provide on-going feedback to students through the use of formative assessments;

* Identification and screening of EL-eligible students based on state and district guidelines;

* Communication to parents regarding EL status, including initial, continuing, and exiting phases;

* Participation in student consults, PPTs, and retention meetings;

* Completion of other responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.

Qualifications:

* Master's Degree in TESOL preferred but not required;

* Position requires a valid Connecticut Teaching Certificate: #111 TESOL (Grades PreK-12);

* Ability to articulate specific knowledge of current theory, best practices, and student advocacy;

* Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills to lead teachers, parents, and members of the school community;

* Ability to bring research-based insight to curriculum development in order to improve student achievement;

* Knowledge of best practice in instruction and assessment;

* Knowledge and experience with restorative and trauma-informed practices is preferred;

* Ability to integrate instructional technology resources into district curriculum;

* Ability to read, interpret, and summarize assessment results including standardized tests;

* Ability to author routine reports, analysis, and correspondence;

* Ability to speak effectively and succinctly before administrators, staff, parents, and students;

* Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form;

* Ability to reinforce current instructional practices and diffuse misconceptions surrounding ELs;

* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community;

* Ability to meet deadlines with time constraints;

* Ability to handle and treat information confidentially;

* Ability to plan and organize work schedule and set priorities;

* Ability to work independently and efficiently;

* Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
