Job Title:
Director of Children’s Ministry
The First Church of Christ in Wethersfield, Connecticut is seeking a full‑time Director of Children’s Ministry. Come and join a dynamic and growing team that is serious about investing in the development of our staff members.
About UsLocated in the heart of Old Wethersfield, Connecticut, First Church is a historic church with a heart for our region and God’s future hope for our church family. First Church has seen a recent and steady increase in families with young children who are excited to be a part of our community. This is a great moment to step into our team.
We are a Jesus‑centered church that is building around four recently adopted core values: wholehearted worship; intergenerational community; healthy discipleship; and compassionate mission. These values shape us as we continue our mission to love God, love others, and make disciples. The candidate will be stepping into a strong and committed base of volunteers. First Church has a beautiful children’s ministry wing with room for growth as well as a recently renovated infant‑toddler space.
First Church is home to a thriving and beloved Preschool. There are many opportunities for building connection with the sixty‑plus families who participate. First Church also hosts a vibrant, weekly, Thursday morning program for mothers in our community. More than sixty women participate each week, with a full childcare program managed by a paid staff member and a core team of volunteers.
ResponsibilitiesThe Director of Children’s Ministry will be responsible for providing oversight to our Children’s Ministry programs. Leadership recruitment and development are the central responsibilities of this role. Weekly Sunday morning gatherings and special events throughout the year make up the bulk of the programmatic responsibilities. This includes a beloved summer Vacation Bible Camp program that draws in nearly one-hundred children each year.
In the coming years, we hope to expand our offerings by adding mid‑week gatherings for elementary‑aged children. Depending on the candidate’s interests, other ministry opportunities will present themselves, including partnership with our Youth Ministries as well as preaching and teaching opportunities as agreed upon with the Senior Pastor.
We are in search of a candidate who is passionate about their faith, relational, hard‑working, and balanced in their work and life responsibilities. An individual with a bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Childhood Education or Christian Ministry is preferred. This individual will serve under the leadership of our Senior Pastor as they collaborate in vision, planning, and implementation of ministry gatherings for children and families.
Salary and BenefitsWe offer a competitive salary and benefit package for this 40-hour a week role. This includes four weeks of paid vacation time and holidays. We also strive to invest in the growth and development of our staff by providing opportunities through coaching networks, conferences, and continuing education.
