Special Education Teacher
Wethersfield Public Schools in Wethersfield, CT is seeking a Special Education Teacher for Webb Elementary School. This position reports to the building principal and is set to start on August 17, 2026, for the school year. The compensation range is $57,847-$114,618. The posting will remain open until filled.
The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for assessing students, planning curriculum and lessons, delivering effective evidence-based instruction, and writing effective Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Participation in interdisciplinary team meetings, Planning and Placement (PPT) meetings, and parent meetings is essential. The teacher should demonstrate strong expertise in collaboration and in delivering ongoing training and supervision to paraprofessionals and general education staff to ensure IEPs are implemented with fidelity.
Duties and responsibilities include upholding administrative regulations, developing and implementing IEPs, participating in PPT meetings, attending team and content meetings, developing strategies to meet the needs of students with disabilities, providing specialized instruction based on individual needs, playing an active role as case manager in the PPT process, using district and classroom data to identify support strategies, planning and participating in co-taught model and/or provision of push-in services, maintaining a daily and weekly schedule of class plans and activities, working collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team, evaluating progress and providing data-driven reports, maintaining and updating cumulative and confidential files of students, conducting follow-up activities with general education teachers, and supervising paraprofessionals assigned to the program.
Qualifications include possessing Connecticut Special Education Teacher Certification 165 (Comprehensive Special Education, K-12), a master's degree preferred, experience working with school students including academic content, lesson modification, and delivery of services within an inclusive environment, strong collaboration and communication skills, strong understanding of students with disabilities in all areas, strong assessment and report writing skills, experience with writing and implementing IEP goals and objectives and participating in PPTs, knowledge and experience with specialized instruction to ensure the provision of educational benefit, and strong understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) experience with applying ABA Methodology and technologies.
