Job Overview

Residential Aide – 2nd

Shift: 16 hours Sunday - Monday 3 pm - 11 pm
Hourly rate: $19.39 (weekend shift differential $1.00 = $20.39). Program:
Hartford.

Location:

Wethersfield.

Scope of Service

Assists individuals with daily personal routines and includes providing prompts for daily living skills, skill‑building activities, group participation, companionship, monitoring medical concerns, reporting issues, maintaining safe and sanitary living spaces, leading group activities and outings, and collaborating with nursing, management, and coworkers to ensure quality services. Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Establish rapport and positive working relationships with clients while maintaining professional ethics and boundaries.
  • Enhance a client’s independent living skills by engaging, assessing, and providing various modalities of teaching and assistance (e.g. modeling, prompting, hands‑on assistance).
  • Provide hands‑on support and guidance for activities of daily living such as personal care/hygiene, housekeeping, laundry, food management/nutrition, budgeting, health and safety, leisure, and other activities promoting healthy living.
  • Facilitate/co‑facilitate psycho educational groups as indicated.
  • Engage with clients in community integration and social recreation activities.
  • Provide transportation to and from appointments as identified.
  • Educate and train clients with travel planning and use of public and private transportation.
  • Conduct regular apartment/room inspections and assist clients in maintaining cleanliness requiring hands‑on assistance.
  • Conduct ongoing rounds checks ensuring safety.
  • Administer breathalyzer tests and urinalysis samples as applicable.
  • Document shift logs in electronic record per contract and agency policy.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with providers, families, and natural supports.
  • Respond to crisis situations and provide interventions per Nonviolent Practices policy.
  • Supervise, monitor, and document self‑administration of client medications.
  • Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings, clinical rounds, All Treater meetings and supervision.
Environmental Responsibilities
  • Maintain a clean, well‑organized work environment.
  • Ensure all program egresses and walkways are clear for workplace safety.
  • Notify supervisor of maintenance/safety issues and generate work orders as needed.
  • Conduct and participate in fire and emergency evacuation drills and review the emergency preparedness plan as outlined in agency policy.
  • Participate in Food Bank activities as assigned.
  • Remain awake during all shifts to maintain security and safety of clients and facility.
Quality Assurance
  • Adhere to policies and practices as outlined in staff handbook and program operations manual.
  • Work respectfully, constructively, and cooperatively.
  • Uphold HIPAA regulations and secure required releases of information.
  • Model culturally competent behavior interacting with clients, providers, families, and fellow staff.
  • Maintain accurate electronic records and case files per program, contractual, licensing, and accreditation requirements.
  • Adhere to CARF standards.
  • Participate in agency committee work when available.
  • Complete all trainings per program contract and agency policy.
  • Attend agency‑sponsored in‑services, outside trainings, conferences, and meetings for continued professional growth.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with minimum one (1) year experience in related healthcare field. Licensed CNA or other certification accepted in lieu of experience.
  • Prior experience working with people with severe and persistent mental illness, intellectual disabilities, and/or addiction.
  • Knowledge of community support system and resources preferred.
  • Valid Connecticut Driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
  • For scattered site and non‑24 hr program positions, reliable transportation and willingness to transport clients in personal vehicles.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (offered during orientation; employee responsible for ongoing certification).
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and electronic record keeping.
