Phlebotomist III – Float
Position Overview
The Phlebotomist III – Float serves as the primary patient-facing representative, delivering high-quality specimen collection services across multiple locations. This role is responsible for performing accurate venipuncture and capillary collections, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and ensuring compliance with established safety, quality, and confidentiality standards.
The Phlebotomist III – Float provides coverage across Patient Service Centers (PSC), In-Office Phlebotomy (IOP), Mobile Phlebotomy, Long-Term Care facilities, and physician offices while maintaining process excellence and exceptional customer service.
Key ResponsibilitiesPerform high-quality venipuncture and capillary blood collection on pediatric, geriatric, and adult patients.
Collect STAT, timed, fasting, routine, and specialty specimens following established protocols.
Label, process, centrifuge, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing with strict adherence to quality control standards.
Ensure patient identification accuracy and maintain HIPAA-compliant confidentiality practices.
Explain procedures clearly to patients to promote comfort, trust, and confidence.
Float between multiple sites and adapt to varying workflows and patient volumes.
Provide coverage and leadership support across Patient Service Centers and physician office environments.
Act as a coach, mentor, and resource advisor for new hires and staff members.
Support onboarding of new employees and clients.
Serve as on-site point of contact and provide feedback to supervisors or group leads.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Laboratory Services, IT Connectivity, Billing, and Logistics teams.
Manage high-complexity and high-volume accounts requiring advanced phlebotomy skills.
Perform accurate data entry, documentation, and order verification.
Maintain compliance with safety, infection control, and regulatory standards.
Handle multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Medical Assistant or Paramedic training preferred.
Phlebotomy certification preferred (required in CA, NV, WA).
Minimum 5 years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric and geriatric collections.
At least 3 years of experience in Patient Service Center (PSC) or In-Office Phlebotomy (IOP) environment preferred.
Strong customer service background.
Proficiency in keyboarding and data entry systems.
Floating coverage for West Hartford, Wethersfield, East Hartford, and Berlin locations.
Schedule:
Monday–Friday between 6:00 AM – 5:30 PM.Alternating Saturdays: 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
