Job Description
Position: Welder I
Pay: Starting rate: $26.08/hr. 24‑month wage progression.
Reports to: Branch Manager
Description: McWane Plant & Industrial is seeking an experienced Welder to join our Job Shop Fabrication and Machining operation. The Welder I will layout and weld parts using manual welding processes to meet templates and specifications and will ensure welds conform to all company and government standards.
Scope of Responsibilities- Ensure personal safety and the safety of team members.
- Assist supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
- Wear appropriate PPE, including fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head, and eye protection.
- Maintain cleanliness of the assigned work area and a safe, clean environment.
- Proactively promote the McWane Way principles; follow all processes and procedures and advise management of any deviations.
- Weld in multiple positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead).
- Identify and perform appropriate welds per specifications.
- Weld ductile iron and steel pipe and collars.
- Always follow all safety rules and practices.
- Use a variety of tools and equipment, including pneumatic and electric tools, measuring devices, calipers, tape measures, grinders, jacks, welders, cutting torches, sanders, drills, chop saws, and cranes safely and proficiently.
- Stand, walk, and use hands, fingers, or controls while performing duties.
- Communicate verbally and in writing in English.
- Reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
- Lift and move up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Adhere to wearing appropriate PPE (steel‑toed boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection).
- Work in dust and fumes.
- Work overtime and extended hours as demanded.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions and tolerate loud noise.
- Have knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
- Meet specified vision abilities: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color distinction.
- Operate a forklift and obtain certification.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum one (1) year of welding experience.
