Lead Cashier, Retail

Overview

The Lead Cashier (LC) is responsible for the efficiency of guest transactions and maintaining excellence in cashwrap standards, including cleanliness and overall aesthetics. The LC assists in training new cashiers and cross‑training other associates, driving loyalty results through a focus on performance, people, and process. The Lead Cashier supports the leadership team with open and close register functions, associate exit inspections, and cashier chat in/outs, and actively engages guests on the benefits of our Loyalty Life Cycle.

• Performance
  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding the store’s retail and service sales, omni‑channel, guest loyalty and retail shrink goals.
  • Ensure each guest receives exceptional service by greeting, engaging, personalizing, and recommending products.
  • Handle sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously.
  • Partner guests with associates for makeup, skincare, and product demonstrations to drive sales.
  • Book appointments and support store events that deliver an exceptional guest experience.
  • Maintain the replenishment, organization, and cleanliness of all cashwrap displays, supplies, and impulse fixtures.
  • Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
• People
  • Create an inclusive environment that supports teammates and guests.
  • Complete cashier chat‑ins, chat‑outs, and associate exit inspections as needed.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
  • Share the benefits of the loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, with guests and associates.
  • Assist in training new cashiers and cross‑training associates.
  • Lead by example and influence peers to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Drive accountability in delivering a personalized Ulta Beauty brand experience and following system prompts.
  • Participate in ongoing brand and category training.
  • Collaborate with managers and associates to grow the business.
• Process
  • Know and comply with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere to the dress code.
  • Ensure completion of all transactions, including returns and associate transactions, and proper control of cash and media.
  • Close and open register functions as directed.
  • Maintain outstanding store cleanliness across all areas.
  • Protect company assets and minimize loss through compliance with safety, inventory control, and loss prevention.
  • Execute other operational tasks as directed.

• Education
  • High school diploma preferred.
• Experience
  • 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to delegate, multi‑task, and problem‑solve.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and passion for guest service and sales competency.
  • Experience addressing guest concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Demonstrated experience exceeding sales goals and training new hires.
• Skills
  • Proficient with basic technology (POS system and Apple devices).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Ability to react under pressure, use good judgment, and be flexible.

• Work a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Lead Cashier must be at least 18 years of age.

• Continuous mobility throughout the store during shift, including twisting.
• Frequent bending, pulling, pushing, crouching, stooping, twisting, and reaching during shift.
• Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 25 lbs. during shift.
• Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift.
