ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL – ELEMENTARY

Position Summary:

The Assistant Principal reports directly to the building principal and works in close collaboration with the Director of Student Services. This position supports the principal in the leadership, coordination, and management of the school’s instructional program and daily operations, with particular emphasis on inclusive practices, student support systems, and equitable access to learning.

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Principal assists in planning, organizing, administering, and coordinating the total school program. The role includes responsibilities related to instructional leadership, supervision and evaluation of staff, student discipline, and oversight of Section 504 and special education processes. The Assistant Principal ensures effective day-to-day implementation of programs aligned with the school’s mission and supports the delivery of academic, social-emotional, and behavioral interventions within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Massachusetts licensure as a Principal/Assistant Principal (PreK–8) required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal special education laws

  • Assists the principal in overseeing instructional practices and school programs
  • Provides instructional leadership to support high-quality teaching and learning
  • Supports implementation of MTSS, including academic, social-emotional, and behavioral interventions
  • Serves as a resource to staff to support inclusive practices and the education of students in the least restrictive environment
  • Collaborates with the principal and Director of Student Services on special education programming, compliance, and referral processes
  • Oversees and supports Section 504 plans and procedures
  • Participates in staff recruitment, hiring, and onboarding
  • Plans and facilitates professional development aligned with school and district priorities
  • Promotes strong partnerships with families and caregivers
  • Assists in maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive school environment, including student discipline and attendance
  • Supports school operations, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation
  • Assists in supervising student activities and school events
  • Represents the principal in their absence
