JOB SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Practice Manager and Service Director, performs duties of technical assistance/administrative support. Duties include patient testing, contact lens insertion and removal training; as well as assisting with various administrative duties within the Optometry Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Performs contact lens instruction, including insertion and removal training on patients
  • Performs Administrative functions, covering front desk, checking in patients, etc.
  • Sets up and cleans examination and test rooms according to infection control standards
  • Insures that equipment is working properly and notifies appropriate personnel when a problem is identified
  • Performs auto-refraction and topography testing
  • Maintains adequate supplies of medical/ophthalmic supplies in exam rooms
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age of the patients served in the service
  • Sterilization of soft and hard contact lenses in accordance with the infection control standards
  • Complies with all state, federal and local regulations and laws governing the performance of this position within this department
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures, including confidentiality of patient and employee information, and attends annual in-service education
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times, by phone, in discussion and by electronic distribution of information
  • Perform other projects as assigned by Manager or physicians

  • Strong customer service skills to provide a welcoming and compassionate environment for patients.
  • Keen attention to detail when recording patient information, performing tests, and assisting with procedures.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively in a team-based healthcare setting.
