Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
  • Massachusetts licensure as a School Adjustment Counselor/School Social Worker.
  • Massachusetts DESE licensure as a School Adjustment Counselor.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child and adolescent development.
  • Experience providing school-based counseling services.
  • Strong knowledge of community resources and family support systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).
  • Experience coordinating wraparound or integrated student support services.
General Responsibilities

The School Adjustment Counselor / District Wraparound Services Coordinator provides comprehensive social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health services to students while coordinating district wide wraparound supports that connect students and families with community resources. This is a full-time position with the counselor expected to work a school-year (183 days) schedule plus an additional 10 days. This position is split equally between elementary direct school‑based counseling services (approximately 50%) and the development, coordination, and oversight of district wraparound services (approximately 50%).

The position plays a critical role in removing barriers to learning, improving attendance and engagement, supporting student well‑being, and strengthening partnerships between schools, families, and community agencies. This position focuses on counseling, crisis intervention, behavioral planning, and student advocacy. The counselor is also responsible for collaborating with school teams, supporting positive school climate, and ensuring compliance with district protocols and state regulations.

Specific

Responsibilities
  • Manage a counseling caseload through individual and group counseling services tailored to students’ social‑emotional needs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Social‑Emotional Learning (SEL) interventions and behavior support plans.
  • Work with families, teachers, administrators, and community partners to coordinate care and improve student outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive records of counseling services, assessments, and referrals.
  • Maintain compliance with state and district protocols regarding mandated reporting, confidentiality, and student safety.
  • Ensure timely crisis response, risk assessments, safety planning, and coordination with mental health providers.
  • Support school‑wide SEL initiatives, restorative practices, and positive behavior systems.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including IEP, 504, and Student Intervention Team (SIT) processes.
  • Provide consultation to staff regarding student behavior, trauma‑sensitive practice, and classroom interventions.
