Overview

As a Day Program Activities Assistant, you will provide direct care and instruction to adults with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities or behavioral challenges. Your role supports the achievement of goals, overcoming barriers, and building life skills in a Day Program or Day Habilitation setting. You will assist a small group of individuals at a time with varying levels of need through direct care and facilitation of rehabilitative activities, focusing on developmental skill training, self‑care, independence, hygiene, toileting, first aid, communication, socialization, motor skills, and enrichment activities around art, music, and horticulture.

The schedule is typically 8 am–4 pm weekdays, emphasizing teamwork, socialization, and relationship building.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction and skill building in self‑help, sensorimotor, communication, social, independent living, behavior, affective, vocational, and wellness development.
  • Assist with case management duties and contribute to interdisciplinary team reviews.
  • Help develop Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and maintain contact with families, funding sources, and other staff.
  • Implement clinical and daily plans, recommend changes for continuous improvement, and maintain daily documentation per data collection policies.
  • Work directly with individuals individually and in groups to develop skills and keep members actively engaged in meaningful activities.
  • Communicate with management regarding treatment and program needs.
  • Participate in the Case Management Team and other relevant teams.
  • Support members in crisis management using Positive Behavior Support (PBS) and Safety Care.
  • Assist in staff training as needed.
  • Maintain physical upkeep of the program area, monitor supplies, and handle equipment needs.
  • Advocate for persons served, follow program policies, and work toward community integration opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Human Services, Special Education, or related field is preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience with a similar population is preferred.
  • Strong time‑management, organizational, and written communication skills.
  • Minimum age 18 years.
  • Must become CPR, First Aid certified within 2 weeks of employment and MAP certified within 150 days (if applicable).
  • Must successfully pass a CORI, SORI, reference, and national fingerprinting background check.

Typical Requirements

One year of relevant work experience or training.

Driving Requirements

Driving is required for some positions using a Vinfen van or personal vehicle. Drivers must possess an active U.S. driver’s license, adequate insurance, a clean driving record, and be at least 21 years old. Drivers may be required to pass a driving screening background check.

Physical Effort

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, and lift at least 25 pounds using proper techniques or a two‑person lift. Must operate computer equipment and assist clients with daily living tasks. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Required Certifications
  • CPR – required within two weeks of hire.
  • First Aid – required within two weeks of hire.
  • Safety Care – required within 90 days of hire.
  • NET – required.
Pay Range

USD $22.50 – $22.50 /hr.
