Work Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed)

Salary Range: $95,000 - $110,000 annually
Location:
Administrative Office: 4875 Ward Road, Wheat Ridge, CO. Some travel may be required to Central City during Festival season and for other organizational needs.

POSITION SUMMARY

Central City Opera House Association (CCOHA) seeks a Controller to oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the organization and ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of all accounting processes and reporting.

This role is responsible for managing core accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, restricted funds tracking, and financial reporting. The Controller will play a critical role in maintaining strong financial discipline, supporting audit processes, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.

This is a hands-on position focused on execution, process management, and operational excellence within the finance function.

The Controller reports to the President & CEO and works closely with the Compliance Officer/Interim CFO and other members of the leadership team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee all accounting operations, including:
    • Accounts payable and receivable
    • Payroll processing
    • Bank reconciliations
    • General ledger maintenance
  • Maintain accurate and timely financial records in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
  • Track and manage restricted funds, ensuring compliance with donor intent and reporting requirements
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including:
    • Income statement
    • Balance sheet
    • Statement of cash flows
  • Support the annual audit process, including:
    • Preparation of schedules
    • Responding to auditor requests
    • Ensuring timely completion
  • Monitor budget-to-actual performance and assist in identifying variances
  • Maintain and improve accounting systems, processes, and internal controls
  • Supervise and support accounting staff (including Staff Accountant / AP & Payroll functions)
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements
  • Support recurring internal financial reporting for management and Board committees as directed
  • Provide timeline and budget worksheets to department heads to complete annual budgeting and planning process on time; compile inputs for drafts and finalized version for Board approval.
  • Provide CCOHA department heads with routine reporting and budget-to-actual income and expenses for reconciliation and forecasting/reforecasting of annual departmental budgets.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & EXPECTATIONS
  • Ability to manage a fluctuating workload during peak periods, including Festival season
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required
  • Primarily in-office, with flexibility as approved.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in accounting or finance, with increasing responsibility
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting strongly preferred
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and fund accounting principles
  • Experience with accounting software systems (Quick Books or similar)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • Experience working in arts, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations
  • Experience supporting audits and financial reporting processes
  • Familiarity with restricted funds and grant tracking
