Elementary Classroom Guide (Co Lead Teacher)

Compass Wheat Ridge.

About Compass: Compass Montessori is one of only a handful of public Montessori schools in the nation that offers a program from preschool through high school. The school is recognized as a model for how to successfully implement a Montessori program from the Children’s House through adulthood. Position

Purpose:

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, Elementary Guides facilitate student success and growth in a Montessori public school setting. Responsibilities include documenting teaching, observation, and student progress; addressing specific educational needs; creating a flexible, safe learning environment; providing feedback to students, parents, and administration; and supporting either a Lower Elementary classroom (grades 1‑3) or an Upper Elementary classroom (grades 4‑6).

Essential

Functions
  • Develop and administer an authentic Montessori elementary curriculum consistent with accredited Montessori training.
  • Promote a safe classroom environment conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
  • Develop Montessori materials and give lessons that address individual student interests.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment and modify instruction to meet students’ needs, including those with special needs.
  • Instruct students in principles of grace and courtesy.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge through development and seminars.
  • Organize and maintain accurate record‑keeping/reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance per district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourage parent involvement and communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Coordinate with other Montessori elementary staff to evaluate and assess curriculum; participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Engage in reflective Montessori practice with a Montessori Instructional Coach.
  • Supervise students during out‑of‑class activities, including transportation.
  • Administer standardized tests according to district testing programs.
Additional Duties

Perform other related tasks as assigned by the campus‑based Principal or school Executive Director.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Organize and coordinate work to serve all students in a high‑quality environment daily.
  • Montessori elementary teacher training and knowledge of Montessori methods and pedagogy.
  • Familiarity with educational information systems, data analysis, and action‑plan formulation.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
  • Effective communication with students and parents.
  • Engage in self‑evaluation for professional growth.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues.
Qualifications
  • Montessori trained at the Elementary level.
  • State certification as an Elementary Teacher or willingness to seek certification.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline applicable to teaching.
Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Participation in school‑led trips, including overnight trips for 3rd‑to‑6th graders.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Works in standard office and school building environments.

Experience

Successful prior teaching experience at the appropriate grade levels is a plus.

Salary

$47,362–$75,683 (dependent on degree and active Colorado state teaching license).
