Facilities Supervisor

The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating facilities and maintenance operations for library locations. This position oversees work assignments, establishes staff and volunteer goals and priorities, develops performance evaluations, administers disciplinary actions as needed, and supports staff training and cross-training initiatives. The Facilities Supervisor ensures the quality, safety, and timeliness of maintenance services, repairs, and service requests while supporting a welcoming and functional environment for patrons and staff.

This role requires a strong understanding of building systems and operations, including HVAC, Building Automation Systems (BAS), plumbing, electrical systems, landscaping, and general building maintenance. The Facilities Supervisor provides leadership and technical guidance related to building and grounds maintenance and must possess prior supervisory experience and maintenance experience, along with knowledge of facility operations and maintenance best practices.

Hiring Range: $65,059.60 - $84,577.48 Annually.

Maintenance
  • Responds to service requests, analyzes and corrects problems. Monitors buildings and grounds. Schedules or performs preventative maintenance as needed. Works with staff to resolve ongoing problems. Reviews contracted work for adherence. Accepts, rejects and/or modifies work and makes recommendations. Maintains automated materials handling system. Maintains system service records. Orders parts and performs routine maintenance. Troubleshoots and repairs equipment. Consults with manufacturer to resolve non-routine problems.

    Monitors/adjusts building automation system.
Emergency Response
  • Responds to building alarms and calls from police or staff during and after hours (24/7). Evaluates situations and determines appropriate response. Communicates situations and actions taken to appropriate parties. Performs immediate repairs to insure staff safety and building security. Contacts contractors as needed to resolve situation.
Administration
  • Assures On-Call is staffed and functional 24/7. Assists with reports on future maintenance needs. Submits administrative reports related to work and division as needed. Creates inspection schedule. Assists in bid process for contract work. Assists in development of maintenance projects. Oversees staff updates to inventory and building systems database. Schedules regular updates and inspections as required by code or JCPL standards.

    Maintains work repair records/logs in order to track productivity and repair history.
Training
  • Instructs Facilities Division employees in methods or procedures needed to carry out their job. Implements safety standards and assists with procedures to ensure compliance. Provides instruction and reminders on work safety standards. Ensures staff adheres to safe practices when working with tools and equipment.
Fiscal Responsibility
  • Participates in strategic and budgetary planning procedures. Provides input to annual plans, budgets and assists with system-wide initiatives. Contributes to division evaluations and reports.
Supervision & Management
  • Hires, assigns, trains, directs and supervises the division staff as well as temporary staff, volunteers and interns in area of responsibility. Coaches on industry best practices. Administers or makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting direct reports including recruitment, orientation, training, setting performance goals, assigning and reviewing work, approving time cards, approving leave, appraising and disciplining, submitting records and documentation as required by Library and Jefferson County Policy.

    Conducts regular staff meetings with subordinate staff. Communicates changes in policies and procedures to direct reports and implements them as directed. Provides technical guidance and support to ensure conformity with established policies, rules and regulations.…
