Sales Consultant, Sales Representative
A Garage Living Designer, also referred to as a Design Consultant, is the individual within the organization that is responsible for the entire sales process from initial meeting and in-home consultation to closing the sale and post installation follow-up. The key activities of the salespeople include but are not limited to:
Essential Functions:
1. Lead Generation – Participating in onsite marketing activities (home shows/events) and generating leads from potential clients. Can also do lead prospecting in the field through networking, onsite displays, having clients host block parties in their garage etc.
2. Consultation – Performing in-home consultations with potential clients. This involves a full assessment of the client’s garage, discussion about the client’s wants and needs, outlining the products and services offered by Garage Living that would be appropriate to the client’s space, and the price-conditioning ahead of quote/design presentation.
3. Proposal/Presentation – Preparation of a quote and design proposal for the client based on in-home consultation, discussions, and overall understanding of the full scope of the potential project. It is critical that the design/quote reflect all of the information from the initial meeting through to the consultation in order to maximize the conversion to an order. The proposal/presentation may be completed either onsite at the customer’s home (at time of initial consultation or on a second visit), in the showroom or remotely through email and virtual presentations.
How and where this process will be completed will depend on the client.
4. Closing Deals – Following the presentation of the quote/design, the designer must close the deal and collect a deposit from the client. Assuming all of the proper steps of the sales process have been followed, the client will have been prepared for the costs involved in the project and understand the scope of work that has been proposed. This conditioning is essential for high closing percentages.
5. Order Preparation – Following the closing of the order, the salesperson is responsible for preparing the order/project with all the proper forms and information required for the installation team to properly execute the order according to the expectations discussed between themselves and the client. High client satisfaction and overall company reputation relies on the ability of the company to deliver on the promises and commitments made by the designer.
6. Customer Service and Satisfaction – prior to, during or after the install is complete, the designer must manage/handle/coordinate/liase with the client and the office/field to ensure a constant flow of communication either to address issues as they arise or simply to ensure that the customers’ expectations are being met. There is no formal process for how this is executed, rather the designer needs to do “whatever is required” to ensure customer satisfaction.
If what was sold to the client differs in any way from what was completed, the designer must be accountable for the disconnect in the system and must work to remedy the issue as quickly as possible.
