The Senior Accountant may also assist with budgeting, audits, and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger activity
Manage month-end and year-end close processes
Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
Prepare internal and external financial reports
Support fund accounting, grant tracking, and restricted/unrestricted net asset reporting
Monitor expenses and revenue to ensure alignment with budgets and funding requirements
Assist with annual audit preparation and support external auditors
Help prepare Form 990 schedules and other compliance-related documentation
Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash reconciliations
Support budget development, forecasting, and variance analysis
Strengthen internal controls and recommend process improvements
Collaborate with program leaders and leadership team on financial matters
May supervise accounting staff or mentor junior team members
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably including nonprofit accounting
Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit/fund accounting principles
Experience with grants, donor-restricted funds, and financial compliance
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
CPA preferred or in progress
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently
Preferred Experience:
Experience in nonprofit, education, government or mission-driven organizations
Familiarity with audit support and regulatory reporting
Experience preparing board financial packets and management reports
This position offers a salary range of $80,000-$110,000 and comes with a great benefit package including medical, dental, vision, paid time off and growth opportunities. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with prior exposure to nonprofit or fund accounting environments preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of month-end close, general ledger management, journal entries, and account reconciliation processes.
- Experience working with grants, donor-restricted funds, and compliance-driven financial reporting.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and advanced capability in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, reporting standards, and audit support practices.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines independently.
- CPA designation or active progress toward certification is preferred.
