Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Biological, Chemical, and Environmental Sciences (BCES) Department at Wheaton College is seeking applicants for a Professor of Practice position starting Fall 2026. The 3/3 teaching responsibilities include but are not limited to Introductory Biology and Anatomy & Physiology (lecture and lab). The successful candidate will play an active role in guiding the future of the Biology major and other related majors (Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Environmental Science, Forensic Science, Medical Sciences, and Nursing) through advising and participation in shared governance structures.

Wheaton's Biology Department is committed to creating an innovative, inclusive learning environment and to providing students with hands-on research opportunities beginning from their first semester on campus; our work has been supported by an HHMI grant for inclusive excellence in STEM. As a department focused on equity and supporting diversity within academia, we encourage applications from individuals who have been historically excluded from Biology and from those who are strongly committed to diversifying the field through mentoring students.

The position may be renewed annually for the first two years, followed by multi-year renewals based on performance and needs of the College.

Minimum Qualifications:

An M.S. with strong teaching experience or a Ph.D. at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach lecture and laboratory classes in these foundational offerings:
Introductory Biology and Anatomy & Physiology. Additional course offerings may be possible based on the candidate's area of expertise and interest.

Compensation and Benefits

To attract and retain the most talented individuals, Wheaton College maintains a flexible and competitive staff compensation and benefits program.

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.

The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $50,000 - $55,000.

The salary for this position will be commensurate with the qualifications, education and experience of the candidate.
