Position: Assistant Professor-Biological and Health Sciences (1000572)

Overview:

Wheaton College (IL) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Professor to join the faculty in a tenure-track position in the Biological and Health Sciences Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in general biology, botany, ecology, and evolution. The candidate is also expected to participate in ongoing research (laboratory or field) in their area of expertise and involve undergraduate students in the research program.

This individual will contribute to the intellectual and spiritual growth of our students, upholding academic excellence,with a commitment to the integration of Christian faith and learning.

The budgeted salary range for an Assistant Professor is $62,000 - 68,000

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver engaging and comprehensive courses in general biology, course-based undergraduate research, botany, ecology, and evolution at the undergraduate level.
  • Utilize diverse teaching methods, including lectures, laboratory sessions, discussions, and innovative educational technologies, to promote active learning and critical thinking.
  • Develop and sustain an active research program that involves undergraduate students.
  • Mentor and advise students in the Biological and Health Sciences Department.
  • Participate in faculty governance and service to the College and community.
  • Opportunities to contribute to the teaching of courses and/or the development of research activities at the Wheaton College Field Station in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. in Biology, Botany, Ecology or a related field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Protestant Christian faith and the ability to integrate faith and learning in the field of biological sciences.
  • Prior teaching experience at the university level is preferred, with a strong record of effective and innovative pedagogy.
  • An ongoing research (laboratory, field, and/or computational) program.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage and inspire students.
