This is a professional position reporting to the Police Lieutenant, responsible for fostering cooperative police/community communications with downtown business owners and City staff, and enforcement of time zones in the downtown (Central Business District) shopping areas, customer only parking areas, and city controlled parking locations.
Responsibilities- Maintain communications with business owners in pinpointing problem parking areas.
- Answer questions and give directions to visitors.
- Identify and provide recommendations to improve effectiveness in compliance and enforcement of violations.
- Enforce time specifications in parking spaces and issue citations by walking all CBD time zones, CBD leased lots, other city controlled parking locations, chalking tires in metered areas, and handling parking complaints from individuals and businesses.
- Monitor “shopper only” parking areas.
- Appear in court to provide department representation regarding parking violations.
- Prepare reports regarding parking, bicycle, roller blade, snow removal, and skateboarding citations.
Minimum requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent, and a valid Illinois Driver's License. Additional requirements include the ability to obtain LEADS certification, understand and enforce local parking ordinances, and have excellent communication and customer service skills. The individual in this position must be able to work independently, work in inclement weather, walk and stand for long periods of time.
Starting pay rate is $25.28 per hour.
