Overview

Seeking an experienced leader dedicated to affordable housing and social justice to lead a non-profit housing counseling agency in DuPage County. The ideal candidate is a creative self-starter skilled at managing multiple priorities and engaging with diverse stakeholders. As chief administrative officer, the executive director oversees all operations and provides leadership on housing issues within the County. This position reports to the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities
  • Program Supervision:
    Direct and oversee all programs, including pre-purchase counseling, foreclosure prevention, home buyer education, and reverse mortgage counseling, ensuring compliance with HUD guidelines. Ensure all grant requirements for existing and new grants are met and that reports are submitted on time.
  • Fundraising:
    Develop and execute strategic fundraising and awareness campaigns. Write grants for government and private funders, and solicit business, membership dues, and sponsor ships. Secure commitments from government and lender partners for mortgage loans benefiting low-income households.
  • Grant Writing and Reporting:
    Research potential funding sources, craft high-quality proposals, and manage post-award reporting to ensure compliance and demonstrate program impact. Funders relations will also be required in this aspect of the position.
  • Financial & Office Management:
    Oversee budgeting, payroll, benefits, accounts payable and receivable, monthly reporting, and annual audits. Manage all office operations, including human resources.
  • Community Relations:
    Maintain and strengthen relationships with current stakeholders and cultivate new community partnerships. Engage with program partners and media to secure resources and ensure consistent, positive representation of the organization. Represent H.O.M.E. DuPage at public speaking events, including service clubs, chambers, and faith communities.
  • Employee & Volunteer Development:
    Lead and support a team of six, and oversee volunteer recruitment to advance program goals and events. Support the Board of Directors and committees in furthering the H.O.M.E. mission.
  • Public Education & Advocacy:
    Develop external communications, including news releases, brochures, and annual reports. Serve as the primary media spokesperson. Oversee special events and create new outreach initiatives. Educate and serve as a resource for industry stakeholders and the public on affordable housing. Participate in community collaborations and task forces.
  • Board Relations:
    Collaborate with the board of directors on development and strategic planning to ensure a consistent, professional organizational image.
  • Lead board committees to achieve annual organizational goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Commitment to furthering affordable housing and economic empowerment.
  • Resource development and partnership building skills.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong fundraising experience.
  • Experience in working closely with Board of Directors.
  • Prior Executive Director Experience - Preferred.
  • Highly organized with strong ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to think conceptually combined with a willingness to “roll up your sleeves.”
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office 365, Excel, Quick Books, email.
  • Knowledge of grant writing, and grant reporting.
  • Knowledge of mortgage lending and government affordable housing initiatives.
  • Financial literacy, including budgeting and financial management skills.
  • BA required, master’s degree preferred.
  • 10 years progressive experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
