Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $20.15 - $26.20 per hour. Placement within the range is based on relevant work experience, internal equity, and collective bargaining agreements for union positions.

Description

Position:
Rehabilitation Nurse Technician (RNT). FTE: 0.6. Shift: 12‑hour shifts. Department:
Three East, a twenty‑one‑bed orthopedic/musculoskeletal rehabilitation unit. The program specializes in joint replacements, amputations, arthritis, other musculoskeletal diseases, and orthopedic trauma.

The RNT is a member of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation care team and supports patient independence and education. The RNT assists the patient with activities of daily living, mobility skills, skin, bowel and bladder programs, and maintains a clean, safe environment under RN supervision. The RNT participates in unit quality projects, provides data collection and equipment inventory, and precepts new RNT employees.

Patient

Care / Clinical Duties
  • Collect and report physiological, psychological, and functional data based on patient plan of care.
  • Assist patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living, promoting independence.
  • Perform preventive skin care program and report changes in skin integrity to RN.
  • Assist with bladder and bowel training programs and perform straight catheterization as directed.
  • Obtain vital signs, pulse oximetry, and report findings to RN.
  • Assist with transfers and mobility activities using proper techniques and assistive devices.
  • Assist with assistive devices and prosthetics/orthoses per patient plan.
  • Assist with meal completion, tray passing, and nutrition documentation.
  • Assist with 1:1 feeds and swallowing strategies.
  • Answer and triage patient call lights.
  • Set up patient room for therapy readiness.
  • Weigh patients weekly and daily as ordered, escalating changes.
  • Collect laboratory specimens as directed.
  • Obtain blood glucose, perform 12‑lead EKG as ordered.
  • Transfer patient from wall to tank oxygen or tube feedings for therapy.
  • Supervise activities and use restraints for patients at high risk of fall.
  • Perform regular comfort and environmental safety rounding.
  • Provide de‑escalation techniques for agitated patients.
  • Serve as a safety 1:1 for patients as needed.
  • Maintain and organize unit equipment inventories.
  • Preceptor to new employees and partner with RNT‑certified nursing students during rotations.
  • Perform duties assigned by nurse manager, supervisor, staff nurse, and charge nurse.
  • Serve on cardiac arrest team performing high‑quality CPR.
  • Participate in bedside handoff.
Quality Improvement
  • Participate in system and local quality improvement goals.
  • Collect data and audit for Joint Commission readiness and improvement projects.
  • Assist in maintaining unit readiness to meet regulatory standards.
Communication
  • Maintain a therapeutic relationship to provide optimal patient‑focused care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients at appropriate level, showing cultural sensitivity.
  • Interact effectively with peers and other hospital staff to foster positive working relationships.
  • Effectively triage patient and general concerns to RN.
Infection Control / Patient Safety
  • Contribute to safe, effective, and professional delivery of patient care, including use of safety/restrictive devices.
  • Follow Infection Control policies and procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of Marianjoy policies concerning precautions, codes, conditions, warnings and general safety procedures.
Adaptability And Flexibility
