Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
Location:Wheaton, IL
Work Setting:In office- one day a week
Blue Kite Wellness provides accessible, compassionate, individualized, and holistic mental health services to children, teens, adults, and families. We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join our growing behavioral health team.
The PMHNP provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, medication management, and ongoing psychiatric care. This position offers a high degree of clinical autonomy while providing opportunities to collaborate with therapists and other behavioral health professionals to support coordinated, client-centered treatment.
The ideal candidate is committed to evidence-based psychiatric care, values collaboration, and is comfortable working with children, adolescents, and families in an outpatient behavioral health setting.
What You’ll Do- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments.
- Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans based on each client’s needs, symptoms, history, and treatment goals.
- Prescribe, monitor, and manage psychiatric medications in accordance with applicable laws, professional standards, and clinical best practices.
- Provide medication-management appointments and ongoing psychiatric follow-up care.
- Educate clients and families about diagnoses, medications, potential side effects, treatment options, and ongoing care needs.
- Monitor treatment effectiveness, medication response, potential adverse effects, risk factors, and changes in client presentation.
- Collaborate with therapists, clinical staff, primary care providers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate client care.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to clinical risk, safety concerns, or changes in client functioning.
- Complete accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the electronic health record in accordance with Blue Kite Wellness policies and applicable regulatory and payer requirements.
- Participate in clinical meetings, case consultation, care coordination, and quality-improvement activities as appropriate.
- Maintain all required licenses, registrations, certifications, continuing education, and professional competencies.
Required Qualifications
- Current Illinois advanced practice nursing licensure and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification in good standing.
- Full Practice Authority in the State of Illinois.
- Current DEA registration and Illinois controlled-substance license, or the ability to obtain both before beginning employment.
- Strong psychiatric assessment, diagnostic, treatment-planning, prescribing, and medication-management skills.
- Sound clinical judgment and the ability to recognize and respond to changes in client presentation, risk, or safety.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organization, and clinical-documentation skills.
- Ability to provide compassionate, client-centered care while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary behavioral health team.
- Working knowledge of applicable legal, ethical, regulatory, payer, and documentation requirements.
- Experience treating children, adolescents, and families.
- Experience working in an outpatient behavioral health setting.
- Experience collaborating with therapists and other behavioral health professionals as part of an integrated treatment team.
This position is based at the Blue Kite Wellness office in Wheaton and requires an on-site presence one day per week. The specific workday and appointment schedule will be coordinated based on client availability and program needs. There is the opportunity for additional hours as the practice continues to grow. Occasional local travel may be required for in-person team meetings, client-related meetings, training, or other program needs.
Compensationand Work Structure
