Job SummaryA Service Clerk (Deli) is responsible for providing excellent customer service to all guests. S/he is responsible for the merchandise in the deli department, which includes: receiving, stocking, preparing, slicing, wrapping, weighing, pricing, rotating, and merchandising the department’s products. Deli products include, but are not limited to: deli meats, cheeses, salads, sandwiches, dips, gourmet, and specialty items. As a team member of Pete’s Fresh Market it is important that Pete’s Four Pillars of Value, Aesthetic, Quality, and Customer Service are always exemplified.
EssentialJob Responsibilities
- Must have a love and passion for deli items, with an extensive knowledge specific to the items Pete’s carries.
- Assist customers by providing knowledge and expertise; advising and guiding them to make the proper selection.
- Possess the knowledge and training of how to effectively use and maintain all deli equipment (ex. electric slicer).
- Assist all customers at the service counter with courtesy, professionalism and timeliness.
- Must possess full knowledge of sanitation requirements and regulations.
- Perform all clean-up duties that are required in deli department in an efficient and timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalency
- 0-3 years of experience in grocery store, delicatessen, or similar retail environment.
- Associate or Bachelor Degree in Retail Grocery, Hospitality or Business, a plus.
- Sanitation License
- Must be 18 years old or older.
- Must be capable of providing and modeling exceptional customer service.
- Must have excellent communication skills in order to communicate effectively with customers, store leadership, and fellow-team members.
- Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or in groups.
- Must have the physical ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time, bend and stoop to grasp objects, frequently push and pull up to 100 lbs., frequently lift loads up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lift 75 lbs.
- Duties are performed primarily in the Deli department. A Deli team member may be exposed to various temperature changes and work environments. Work includes walking, standing, lifting, and carrying products weighing up to 60 pounds, eye‑hand coordination and interaction with customers and associates.

Starting hourly rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and will vary based on things like location, experience, and qualifications. All positions are eligible for Overtime, and some positions will have guaranteed Overtime available.
Hourly rate for Suburban Stores is $15-$18
Hourly rate for City of Chicago Stores is $16.60-$18
