Summary
Positions in this class are assigned to the local school to assist the administration in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for the school community. Under the general supervision of the security team leader, the role assists in screening visitor access to school facilities, maintaining student class attendance, and carrying out other responsibilities related to school security operations. This position receives guidance and assistance from the security team leader on more difficult or unusual situations.
PhysicalDemands
Requires sufficient physical strength to intervene in fights and physically restrain persons; stamina to spend long periods walking, standing, and completing security patrol duties; ability to patrol outdoors in inclement and extreme weather conditions.
Special RequirementsRequired to work flexible hours, including weekends, as assigned by the principal or security team leader to provide maximum security coverage. Required to occasionally work overtime and wear the designated security uniforms.

Full-time, 10 working months, Day shift - Salary range: $24.45–$33.72 per hour, based on responsibilities

- Knowledge of procedures for ensuring safety and welfare of students, staff, and visitors
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques and security practices
- Ability to conduct investigative procedures
- Familiarity with school and district policies on attendance, suspension, and standards of behavior
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Capability to work harmoniously with staff and students under team leader supervision
- Knowledge of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS)
- High School diploma or GED required;
Associate's degree preferred - College coursework in criminology, law enforcement, or related fields
- Experience in safeguarding students or other roles in an educational environment
- Experience in investigation and police work desirable
- First aid and CPR certification
- Valid Maryland Class C noncommercial driver’s license or equivalent
Bilingual English/Spanish candidates with working knowledge of safety procedures, behavior management, and investigative techniques are preferred.
