Maintenance Worker (Public Works - Streets Division - Night Shift Sweeper)
The Maintenance Worker performs maintenance, repair, and construction to maintain the City's roadways. Specific work assignments are provided daily and may be rotated. Work includes the operation of motorized equipment and the expenditure of heavy physical labor. This is a night shift position, with five night shifts each week from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, Sunday night to Friday morning.
Duties and Responsibilities- Operate various types of street sweepers to meet EPA and city expectations.
- Operate a wide variety of equipment and vehicles of various classifications as qualified and assigned, including street sweepers, dump trucks, wheel loaders, skid steer loaders, forklifts, backhoes, and other equipment.
- Operate various hand and power tools, including saws, pumps, and air compressors.
- Assist in snow removal operations as required.
- Drive a dump truck with a snowplow and spreader in performing snow and ice control duties, as needed.
- Prepare winter salt brine mixtures.
- Handle overnight calls and requests from the Police and Fire Departments.
- Perform asphalt repairs throughout the year.
- Respond to 24-hour emergency call-back.
Education/
Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Basic computer skills and experience working with GIS systems are preferred.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid Illinois Driver's License and Valid Illinois Commercial Driver's License with related endorsements are required. Preferred candidates must possess a Class A CDL. Possession of a Flagger's Certification and a Forklift Certification may be required. Ability to be detail-oriented, mechanically inclined. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Perform heavy physical work.
