POSITION DEFINITION: Under the general direction of the Director of Facility Services and the Facility Management Team, works independently to maintain buildings, equipment and grounds for Community Unit School District 200 and is committed to customer satisfaction for all shareholders in the CUSD 200. This position is responsible to be on call per rotation schedule for emergency service as assigned by the Director of Facility Services or assignee.

A minimum of 3 years experience as a professional maintenance technician or grounds keeper is mandatory for this position. A High School diploma or equivalent is necessary. A valid driver s license (Not a CDL position) is obligatory as well as the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English. Expected hours of work will be 7 AM to 4 PM for first shift or 3 PM to 11:30 PM for second shift.

The regular full-time workweek shall be defined as consisting of not more than five (5) consecutive days per week during the period of Monday through Saturday. Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Facility Services or assignee in accordance with provisions of board policy.

Key Function A:
Buildings

Authority/Responsibility Maintain, diagnose and repair all aspects of Community Unit School District 200 buildings or designated locations as requested or required to maintain operating excellence for these sites.

Representative Activities

  • Construct, repair and modify furniture, cabinets, counters, shelving units, bulletin boards, desks, tables, partitions and school office equipment and furniture.
  • Replace broken windows and glass as well as glaze widows as requested.
  • Assist remodeling projects that include basic carpentry, masonry, plumbing, painting, installing vinyl cove base and electrical projects under the management of the Facility Services Management Team.
  • Ability to locate mechanical system main shut offs, gas, electric, water, sprinkler system.
  • Duties as assigned. Work schedule will vary according to season and specific position assignment.
  • Ability to detect leaks and replace ceiling tile and inform Facility Services.
  • Repairs, modifies, installs and maintains all door hardware equipment, closers, hinges, panic bar systems, glass, frames, ADA compliant door systems, cylinders, locks, fire door coordinators, cores and other door hardware.
Key Function B:
Equipment

Authority/Responsibility Maintain, repair and correctly use Community Unit School District 200 assigned equipment to sustain a safe and secure work area.

Representative Activities

  • Make basic calibrations of valves and controls for all HVAC equipment as well as the ability to operate building automation systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment. Ability to learn new methods and systems.
  • Repair building equipment and machinery.
  • Service all electrical supply and lighting equipment.
  • Service all plumbing fixtures and systems.
  • Ability to operate all hand, power tools and equipment to complete assigned tasks.
  • Can assist school performing fore alarm drill, take alarm out of service, activate alarm, acknowledge, reset system, and make proper arrangements for this test with the monitoring company.
  • Ability to perform emergency generator preventive maintenance inspection.
  • Install new phone lines or data lines using Cat5 wire as well as test phone lines for operation and tone.
  • Walls partition as in gym and Multi Purpose rooms must be able to inspect / adjust / repair.
  • Ability to locate mechanical system main shut offs, gas, electric, water, sprinkler system.
  • Trouble shoot security alarm system devices as well as operates fire alarm systems, acknowledge alarms, silence trouble, system test and reset panels.
  • Ability to inspect and complete preventive maintenance tasks on district vehicles as well as the ability to change motor oil filter and motor oil on district vehicles.
