Building Automation Systems Technician

Position Summary

We are pleased to offer the opportunity to work as a Building Automation Systems Technician for the DuPage County Facilities Management Department. This employee will work on Facilities Management and Public Works projects at various locations.

This position is assigned to the IUOE - LOCAL 399 bargaining unit. DuPage County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

• Installation of panels, controllers, field devices and cable terminations for a complete functional system.
• Upload, download, commission, troubleshoot, and supervise controls.
• Prepare and revise building automation system equipment control methods.
• Monitor the activities of sub‑controllers.
• Balance HVAC systems.
• Provide practical building automation system and control training for department staff.
• Work with outside contractors for building controls integrations.
• Respond to occupants’ service calls, check indicated points of trouble, analyze system requirements and resolve issues to ensure system and components are functioning properly.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
• Conduct preventative maintenance checks and operations verification.
• Maintain inventory and recommend ordering of stock and materials to supervisor.
• Provide assistance to other labor trade classifications.
• Plan work and complete estimates of time and materials to complete projects.
• Be on call on a rotating basis as assigned.

• Four years of experience in building controls and automation, including troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of systems; completion of college‑level courses or Johnson Controls Building Management System courses in pneumatics, hydraulics, electricity, electronics, programming, installation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Understanding of mechanical systems operation.
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Experience in programming and/or troubleshooting Johnson Controls Metasys, Tracer SC, or similar direct digital control systems.

Heavy work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than for medium work.

The work environment frequently includes working near moving mechanical parts, in precarious places, with fumes or airborne particles, in cramped or confined spaces, and with potential hazards such as high temperature, hot water/steam, chemicals, refrigerant, and low temperature walk‑in refrigerators.
