Domestic Violence Specialist (Hotline‑Shelter) – hourly position located in Wheaton, IL.

Competitive hourly rate of $17.90–$19.80, depending on skill and experience level.
Priority coverage hours: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Essential Job Functions- Provide direct services to survivors of domestic abuse and their children, including crisis intervention, safety planning, emotional support, life skills, advocacy, parenting support, information, and referrals across in‑person, virtual, or phone settings.
- Distribute written materials and conduct community presentations on domestic violence and available services.
- Maintain knowledge of Metropolitan Family Services resources and community partner services, facilitating linkages.
- Attend mandatory group supervision and program/agency meetings.
- Collaborate with other programs and staff to deliver comprehensive client services.
- Complete timely paperwork, including case notes and documentation.
- Support data collection for direct services and outreach efforts.
- Represent Metropolitan Family Services professionally within the community.
- Follow Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professionals code of ethics.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong knowledge of community resources.
- Interest in domestic violence prevention and professional growth.
- Ability to respond appropriately in varied situations with minimal supervision.
- Team‑based and independent problem‑solving skills, professionalism, and mature judgment.
- Self‑awareness, empathy, and sensitivity to client trauma.
- Excellent verbal and written communication with diverse populations.
- Work schedule flexibility, including some evenings and/or weekends.
- Basic computer knowledge and general office equipment operation.
- High School diploma or GED plus 3 years of related work experience, or associate’s degree plus 1 year.
- Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field. - 40‑hour Domestic Violence training preferred at hire; must complete prior to client contact.
- Preferred:
Bilingual in English and Spanish. - Additional skills may be required for the specific program/site.
- Pass all relevant screenings and criminal background checks.
- Driving required with personal vehicle; travel between sites required.
- Must be able to sit and stand for sustained periods, frequently talk, hear, use hands and fingers, stand, bend, stretch, kneel, and crouch.
- Requires close visual acuity for data analysis, transcription, and computer work.
