Position Summary
  • Assist the Head Coach to provide a competitive athletic environment that empowers and inspires student athletes.
  • Help foster team building and an environment of reliability, adaptability and good sportsmanship.
  • Aide in the promotion of academic growth and achievement for athletes.
Qualifications
  • IHSA Coaching Certification (including performance‑enhancing substances, concussion, hate speech and harassment, CPR/AED training).
Reports To
  • Assistant Principal for Athletics, Assistant Athletic Director, or Head Coach of the building assigned.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Communicate with Head Coach regarding role, duties and expectations.
  • Help supervise issuance and collection of equipment.
  • Supervise practice, contest and locker room facilities and transportation of athletes to and from practice and contests.
  • Complete necessary paperwork on time.
  • Cooperate with requests for information from the athletic office promptly.
  • Promote and publicize team and individual achievement to the media and school.
  • Demonstrate proper care of facilities and equipment.
  • Ensure full compliance with school, district, conference and IHSA rules and regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, conveying team rules, responsibilities and consequences for violations.
  • Show enthusiasm for working with student athletes, concern for all team members and interest in academic achievement.
  • Develop team morale and rapport.
  • Discipline in a firm, fair and consistent manner.
  • Encourage athletes to participate in other school sports and activities.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner on and off the field.
  • Be punctual.
  • Be cooperative in sharing facilities.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the program.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and the media.
  • Support and promote school spirit.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with coaching staff, faculty and administration; work cooperatively and communicate effectively with the Head Coach and other assistants.
