POSITION SUMMARY
We are pleased to offer the opportunity to work as a Laborer for DuPage County's Division of Transportation. This position supports the Highway Maintenance Department.
THIS POSITION IS ASSIGNED TO THE IUOE - LOCAL 150 DIVISION OF TRANSPORTATION BARGAINING UNIT.
This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing requirements of the United States Department of Transportation - Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.
This position is eligible for our complete benefit package including medical, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, pension, deferred compensation plan, tuition reimbursement, pre-paid legal and credit union. As a team member at DuPage County, you will also have access to time off with pay on Designated Holidays or holiday pay if required to work, Vacation time, Sick time and Personal days.
Employees in this role receive 1 hour per day of on-call pay for November 1st through March 31st (on-call pay will only apply once a CDL is obtained).

RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include:
- Roadway activities such as mowing, brush chipping, shoveling, raking, sweeping and traffic control
- Operates pickup truck, forklift, bobcat, and other roadway equipment
- Operates a tandem axle snowplow
- Shop activities such as cleaning, sweeping, and performing basic maintenance tasks (e.g. replaces light bulbs, sharpens lawn mower blades, empty shop trash, greases equipment, etc.)
- Tracking and updating inventory, receiving deliveries, retrieving parts, restocking supplies
- Pick up and drop off vehicles, equipment, and parts
- Assists fleet mechanics and equipment operators with their daily job tasks
- Other custodial, shop and roadway related tasks as assigned
Requirements include the following experience or equivalent combination of training and experience:
- Completion of a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
- A valid Illinois Driver's License
- Ability to obtain a CDL within six (6) months of hire (assistance provided by the Division of Transportation)
- Previous experience in minor engine repair and road maintenance
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently

Employees in this class are required to be on call for emergency situations and seasonal snow removal, which means being capable of working in excess of forty (40) hours per week.
